Q. What is the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?
A. In sweat content analysis, it has been determined that infrared sauna use produces sweat containing 80% water and 20% toxins while conventional sauna use produces sweat containing 97% water and only 3% toxins. Conventional hot rock/steam heat saunas heat the air with steam, which can often be unbearably hot and will cause you to only sweat at the surface of the tissue. Steam also makes the air difficult to breathe. An infrared sauna uses soothing dry infrared heat that is well ventilated and extremely comfortable and relaxing.
Q. What is the difference between infrared therapy and red light therapy?
A. The wavelength infrared puts out is longer than the wavelength of red light, this allows infrared to penetrate more deeply into the body. The deeper penetrating light causes the body to sweat and detoxify itself. Read more about the differences here.
Q. How hot does the sauna get?
A. Temperature can be set anywhere between 100-160 degrees. If you are a beginner, you’ll want to start around 110. This way you'll give yourself a chance to get used to the heat. Our infrared sauna operates at a maximum of 160 degrees as opposed to a traditional sauna which can be as hot as 190 degrees or more. Even though the temperature is so much cooler (and more comfortable) you will probably sweat more than you ever have before. For those who want to get a good sweat but can't tolerate the high temps of conventional saunas, infrared saunas might be the answer.
Q. Can I use the sauna before I get my spray tan?
A. No. When you get a spray tan you want your skin to be completely clean free of perspiration, excessive moisture, etc. The sauna will cause you to sweat and not allow the spray tan solution to properly adhere to your skin.
Q. How often should I use an infrared sauna?
A. This is up to your personal preference. Two to three times per week is usually suggested. 3 or more times a week if you are looking for a serious detoxification or weight loss.
Q. What should i wear in the sauna?
A. We recommend a wearing a bathing suit, towel, or something minimal. We provide towels that you must sit on during your session. You may bring a robe if you would like.
Q. Do you provide showers?
A. No, we do not. We give you towels and let you relax and naturally dry off after your session.
Q. How old do I have to be to use the infrared sauna?
A. Children under the age of 18 may use the sauna accompanied by an adult. Sessions should not exceed 20 minutes. Children’s metabolisms are much faster than adults, so take precaution not to overheat.
Q. Can I use the sauna if I am pregnant?
A. No. Pregnant women should NOT use an infrared sauna in any way, shape or form for any period of time. The increased temperatures can increase the risks for birth defects or fetal damage.
Q. Do I need to make an appointment to use the infrared sauna?
A. We highly suggest making an appointment. This way we can have your sauna heated up for you, due to the fact that it takes 20 minutes to reach appropriate temperature. As well as make sure the sauna won't be in use by another client. We do take walk-ins. If you cannot make your appointment please give us at least a 1 hour notice, preferably 12 hours if possible, so we can schedule someone else. Thank you.
Q. Why am I required to put a credit card on file when scheduling an infrared sauna appointment?
A. We require clients to put a credit card on file when scheduling an infrared sauna appointment. It costs us money to heat and run the sauna, so if you don't show up it's not fair to us or clients who would have loved your appointment spot but couldn’t take it because you reserved that time. We understand that stuff comes up, but we please ask that you give us at least twelve hours notice before you cancel your appointment. We do not have access to your information and do not charge your card for the service. However, if you do not cancel your appointment you will be subject to a 50% charge of the full service amount.
Q. Is a waiver required and where can I review it?
A. Yes, a waiver is required. You can view it here. You may print it out and bring it with you, or fill it out when you arrive for your appointment.
