Please send a photo of your natural eyebrows & skin type to our technician Alyssa (e-mail email@example.com or text 609-994-4550) before scheduling an appointment to make sure you are a candidate for microblading. You may also include a picture of the brows you wish to achieve.
Q. What is microblading?
A. Microblading, is a procedure categorized under permanent makeup, but unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less invasive and is semi-permanent. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type and skincare routine. The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra fine needles and each 'hair' is gently etched into the skin, giving an incredibly natural and realistic look. Microblading can dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrow and is excellent for those wanting to enhance their brows or who have little to no eyebrows, thinning brows from age or over tweezed brows. Pigments used are chosen to match the natural or desired brow color and skin tone will also be taken into consideration.
Q. What is shading?
A. Shading involves using a different hand tool from Microblading in order to produce bolder, more filled in looking results. Shading will most likely eliminate the need for brow makeup altogether. Clients can choose from solid Shading which produces the most intense looking brow, partial shading which includes Microblading + Shading (otherwise known as the popular Instagram Brow) or light shading which can add natural looking color behind natural hair or Microblading hair strokes. The Ombre Brow can also be achieved this way by using shading as a color gradient to achieve a lighter to darker look.
Q. How long does it take?
A. Microblading is a 2 step process, usually 4-6 weeks apart. It is important to complete both the initial procedure and touch up. For the first microblading session, the entire procedure will take approx. 2.5 hours. The technician starts off by shaping and styling your brows if needed. Though our faces are NOT perfectly symmetrical (one side is usually flatter than the other), we do our very best to create as much symmetry as possible! As we like to say BROWS ARE SISTERS, NOT TWINS. Once you are satisfied with the basic shape and symmetry, you then follow with pigment color selection. The area is then traced over and semi-permanent pigment is applied with a disposable microblading hand tool. You are to come in for a follow up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups. The second session takes place after 4-6 weeks after the initial session. This session will take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete.
Q. How long does it take to heal?
A. The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and color will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The color will fade by up to 40% as it heals. In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the microbladed area. The eyebrows will lighten up in color as it heals. No down time is required after microblading procedure. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in. You'll notice the color is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True color will reveal itself once healed.
Q. Is it safe?
A. Absolutely. Sterilized, disposable needles and supplies are used during the process.
Q. What if I don't like the results?
A. The technician works closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed technique. I will allow you to have as much control over the procedure as possible, so there's very little room for error. If you do not like the decision you made, the touch up can be cancelled and the pigmented area naturally fades away over time.
Q. Is the touch up session necessary?
A. Yes! A touch up session after 4-6 weeks is necessary as everyone heals differently and outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may need to be adjusted, brow thickness and more strokes can be added. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color for the whole year!
Q. Can I get my touch up session sooner than 4 weeks?
A. Touch up sessions should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after initial microblading session as pigment color has not fully settled into the skin. Most importantly, this is to prevent scar damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.
Q. Is it painful?
A. We take every precaution necessary to ensure the microblading procedure is as pain free as possible. A topical anaesthetic cream is used prior to and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable while others report no discomfort at all. You will hear a scratch noise/sensation throughout. Music is usually played during the procedure, however feel free to bring you own ear phones and music to distract you.
Q. How long does it last?
A. Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: patients who UV tan, uses products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's color retention within the skin will vary. The pigment typically begins to fade within 12 months. In order to keep your brows looking fresh, a touch up is recommended every 12 months to 24 months maximum.
Q. Do I still need to wax/tweeze my brows?
A. Yes. Hair will continue to grow in areas outside the brow we have created. The maintenance will be less though, and you will have a nice stencil so waxing/tweezing will be a lot easier and more straightforward to complete.
Q. What are your appointment, cancellation, and missed appointment policies?
A. In order to secure your appointment, we will request a credit card during the scheduling process. A $100 deposit is required for all initial microblading appointments, which will be deducted from the cost of the procedure. However, on the day of your appointment, you may pay for your treatments with cash, credit card or gift card. You will get a 100% refund on your deposit only if it is cancelled within a timely manner. If you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time or no show, you will not be refunded as the therapist will have turned away other Clients for you. If you show up to your appointment and microblading is declined or not performed for any reason, you can lose the $100 deposit.
Q. Is a waiver required and where can I review it?
A. Yes, a waiver is required. You can view it here. You may print it out and bring it in with you or fill one out when you arrive for your appointment.
